Lily Collins admitted she got Emily from Emily In Paris’ age mixed up after saying the titular character was much younger than she is.

The 31-year-old previously said that Emily was around 22, and fans lost their minds wondering how someone so young could get a sudden job in Paris.

‘Emily looking at me when I get her age wrong,’ the actress wrote on her Instagram Stories, along with a GIF of her character making a face. ‘Sorry girl.’

‘You might not be 22, but I gotta say – you do act like it sometimes!!!’

For a second we thought Emily was one lucky freshly-graduated woman.

In the show, Emily states that she had completed a masters’ degree at university, and with a typical undergraduate course lasting four years in the US, and a masters taking a further two years, it led many viewers to believe she was in her mid-late 20s.

Not forgetting that Emily is helping to run the social media strategy for many high-end brands, and a job like that would no doubt require some years of experience.

However, Lily believed the character was meant to be much younger than some may think, telling Vogue UK: ‘I don’t believe we’ve ever given her a specific “number” for her age, but I believe that she’s pretty fresh out of college.

‘Maybe this is her first year after graduation.’

‘I want to say she’s like, 22-ish. She’s had enough experience at her company in Chicago to have earned the respect of her boss. She’s gone to school for this, and she’s completed internships.’

The series has been a huge hit for Netflix, but French critics didn’t like the stereotypical portrayal.

The cliched look at the show might have become a fun watch for the world, but those who live in the city weren’t happy with its interpretation on-screen.

MadmoiZelle reported: ‘It reduces the capital’s inhabitants to vile snobs sporting Birkin handbags who light up a cigarette the minute they’re out of the gym.

‘Three episodes might have been amusing. Unfortunately, there are 10!’
